Promoters and food hounds are quick to share views that Buffalo eateries serve up some of the best fare in the nation, ranging from pub-style grub to haute cuisine. Gourmands in the know head for places like Salvatore's Italian Gardens Restaurant, Hutch's or Just Pasta. Buffalo heritage-trackers often head for the country formal Asa Ransom House, the Old Orchard Inn, or Ilio DiPaolo's. Authentic and diverse, international dining options stretch from Tandoori for Indian specialties to Tsunami for Pacific Rim flavors or Toro for Spanish tapas. Of course, plenty of patrons would argue that nothing reflects Buffalo dining like roast beef on weck, the weck part being a crusty, hard kummelweck roll also known as a Kaiser or Vienna, covered with caraway or cumin seeds and course salt. Other Buffalo favorites, like wings and charbroiled hot dogs, are ubiquitous throughout the area, with some of the best wings at the Anchor Bar or Damon's Grill. Savor beef on weck at Schwabl's or the Buffalo Brew Pub. Swiston’s Beef & Keg in Tonawanda thrives on homestyle cooking at its homiest with a menu limited to chili and beef on weck or plain rolls. Ted's and Louie's are known for truly Buffalo-style sauced up dogs.
